Identity Theft Protection

Identity Theft Protection

Overview

You may be mindful about taking steps to protect your identity, but you can miss certain threats if you’re just monitoring your credit and bank statements. NortonLifeLock sees more, like someone taking out an online payday loan in your name or changing your address without authorization, or that your personal information is on the dark web.

NortonLifeLock’s proprietary technology detects and alerts you to a wide range of identity threats.1 If you’re ever a victim of identity theft, a dedicated, U.S.-based Identity Restoration Specialist will personally handle your case from start to finish and help fix it. Plus, get access to funds reimbursement, should you become a victim.

  • What is Identity Theft?

Identity theft is when someone steals your personal information for their gain and your loss. Personal information can include your Social Security number, birthdate, email address and passwords. Criminals could potentially steal from retirement accounts, buy or rent properties and even commit crimes–all in your name. It could take months or even years to discover and the restoration process could be lengthy.
  • What happens when your identity is stolen?

From data breaches to all you do online, it’s getting easier for criminals to steal your personal information. Having your identity stolen isn’t just costly in time and money. Once a criminal has what they need, they can start doing bad things for their gain and your loss. Here are some examples:

    • Tax-Related ID Theft: By only using a stolen Social Security number and birthdate, identity thieves can file a tax return in your name.
    • Steal From Accounts: Under your name, thieves can withdraw money or make major purchases like a house or car while you’re stuck with the bill.
    • Medical ID Theft: You may not notice this type of theft until it’s time for medical treatment or an insurance claim. Thieves can use your name or insurance information to receive medical care.
    • Open New Accounts: Thieves can open new accounts for credit cards, loans, utilities and more in order to make purchases or steal funds. It could take months or even years to discover the new accounts.
  • Do I need identity theft protection if I watch my accounts online daily?

By the time an identity theft appears on your bank account statement or even your credit files, the actual identity theft has already occurred. In the event something does happen, NortonLifeLock has dedicated Identity Restoration Specialists available to personally assist you through every step of the process.
